Skincare Habits to Practice Before Your 30s

Children have it easy. Before puberty hits, most kids experience few to no skin problems, as their natural skin barrier does all the hard work of maintaining and protecting their skin. However, as we get older, environmental and lifestyle factors start to take a toll on our skin. By the time you hit your 30s, you’re going to need to do a little extra work to maintain healthy, beautiful skin. Here are some skincare habits you should start practicing now:

Read Ingredients Lists

If you want to enjoy healthy, beautiful skin well into your golden years, you can’t be cavalier about what you put on your skin. Many skincare ingredients commonly found in inexpensive, drugstore products can be too harsh or stripping on your skin. While you may not experience immediate irritation or breakouts, they may eventually take a toll on your skin. Switch to well-made organic beauty products featuring high quality ingredients, like those by Well Within Beauty.

Educate yourself and learn about common skin irritants like sulfates, drying alcohols, parabens and allergens. Learn how to read product ingredients lists and how to spot potentially problematic ingredients. Everyone’s skin is different, so you should also learn how to identify which ingredients your skin responds best to, and which ones tend to irritate or break you out.

Add Antioxidants

As we get older, our skin becomes more vulnerable against environmental factors such as sun exposure, pollution, dust and smoke. It starts to lose some of its radiance and elasticity, and can become dull, rough or textured. Help your skin protect itself by adding products with antioxidants, such as an antioxidant moisturizer or serum.

Products that contain Vitamin C, green tea or berry extracts usually contain lots of antioxidants, which are powerful substances that can fight against harmful free radicals in the air and environment. They can help brighten and clarify your skin, so you can maintain a healthy, radiant glow.

Wear Sunscreen Every Day

This is a habit you should have started in your teens, but if you’re still not wearing sunscreen every day, the best time to start is right now. Sunscreen is the single most effective anti-aging product you can invest in. The sun’s harmful rays can do a whole lot of damage to your skin, including causing fine lines, wrinkles, dark spots and hyperpigmentation.

Protect your skin and maintain a youthful glow by wearing a sunscreen with broad spectrum protection and an SPF of at least 30 every day. Choose a sunscreen that is lightweight in texture and that doesn’t have a heavy white cast, so you’ll feel comfortable wearing it daily and reapplying. Be sure not to skip sunscreen even on rainy or overcast days, as the sun’s powerful rays are ever present, even when not visible.

Start practicing these habits today, and you’ll soon notice a significant improvement in your skin. By the time you hit your 30s, you’ll be well-equipped and able to delay the signs of aging for as long as possible.
