Statistics On Overweight Americans

Statistics related to obesity in the United States is alarming with scary figures. While the latest number of deaths caused due to obesity directly or indirectly stands at three hundred thousand, it also shows that every two people among three people in the United States is overweight and one out of every three people is obese. That would make nearly 75 percent of the American population overweight.

There are several reasons on a socio economic scale that have contributed to the increase in the rate of obesity. One is the food culture like fast food and processed food and the other is the portions that people eat. Most of the foods that people eat in the United States are artificial in one way or the other. Even vegetables are altered genetically so that they grow large. Dairy products like milk contain hormones that are not healthy for humans.

So, there is a natural increase in the number of people who are obese. Moreover, most people are prone to eating fast food at least twice a week which is another major contributing factor to obesity. Though obesity does not directly cause death, it does lead to several terminal diseases like cardiovascular disease and diabetes. It was found that nearly 9 percent of people who die due to these diseases are also fat or obese. That is a pretty high rate to deal with and the best part is that obesity is a problem which can be easily avoided and prevented.

More people have to realize the importance of healthy diet and exercise in order to avoid health problems caused by being overweight or obese.
