Theories On Sleep Deprivation

Sleep deprivation has been classified into many types like sleep apnea, sleeping disorders, and insomnia. Several psychiatrists agree that when a person does not get sleep in the night, several activities during the day get affected.

If people, who work, or children, who go to school, suffer from sleep disorders, it might be very difficult for them to concentrate on their daily routine. Concentrating on a particular activity perhaps is the most difficult to thing to do without adequate sleep.

There have been several theories on sleep and many researches have been indicating that sleep is a very important function of the body.

Brain performs several activities while a person is sleeping. It does several maintenance activities like cell division, protein synthesis, organizing memory and much more. Most of these activities get interrupted if a person does not sleep. Also, it has been concluded through research that most people who are insomniacs also suffer from a certain degree of memory loss.

One of the most popular sleep deprivation theories is that insomnia causes depression. This may be partly true because a person who is not getting enough sleep is tired throughout the day and they insufficient amounts of energy most of the times. However, the main reason for the lack of sleep may itself be due to depression or deep mental disturbances. A person who is mentally healthy in spite of suffering from physical ailments does no suffer from insomnia. In fact, there have been several theories in which insomnia has been directly related to emotional imbalances.
