If a five year old is bedwetting, then there is not much to worry about. They are still getting over their toddler years and in most possibility they would have just been potty trained. They are the most likely to wet the bed because of a natural instinct to wet the diaper. |
Bladder control is not completely developed in five year olds.
Also, until they are three years or four years they would have been wearing diapers. Wearing a diaper gives them an option to pass urine while standing, sleeping or sitting. So, they do not completely understand that they have to control the urge until they find a bathroom. It is something new for them not to wear diapers and look for a bathroom whenever they feel like going. So accidents might happen now and then.
It is most likely that they will wet their beds in the night. If a five year old is wetting the bed even twice a week, there is still nothing to worry about. You can easily rectify this by trying to be more aware of your child’s needs. Never scold or reprimand the child. This will instill fear in him and make increase the episodes of bedwetting. Instead try to help them out by giving them fewer fluids to drink in the night or before they sleep. Do not even offer the child water. See that they are dressed up warmly for the night if it is cold outside. Also, do not let them watch scary movies and if they seem scared and frightened, talk to them and get them out of it.
