What Are The Causes Of Alzheimer's Disease

Alzheimer’s is a debilitating disease and as there is no cure for it, many people want to know what are the causes of Alzheimer’s disease. While there a number of possible causes, the list of possibilities keeps growing as scientists understand more about the disease.

However, the main cause of Alzheimer’s disease can be narrowed down to just one, which is aging. As the person ages, we can see a reduced ability to function on a daily basis. However, aging by itself does not mean that you will get Alzheimer’s. There are many people in their 80s and 90s who still very active both mentally and physically and show no signs of Alzheimer’s.

So, what are the causes of Alzheimer’s disease? Primarily, scientists believe there are two causes and they are hereditary and lifestyle causes. While it has not been proven that Alzheimer’s is a hereditary disease, but if there is a history of the disease in the family, the risk to future generations is there. Research has shown that if a person has the gene (ApoE4) for Alzheimer’s, he has an increased chance of being diagnosed with the disease.

Some studies have shown that there is an inherent link between Alzheimer’s and diet. This means that lifestyle can also cause the disease. The belief is that diet high in fat can cause the increasing number of free radicals to damage the brain. Clubbed with chronic stress, the damage to the brain can be greater leading to the disease.

What are the causes of Alzheimer’s disease still remain uncertain and scientists are still endeavoring to find the answers because this will give them the solution to cure this disease that has affected millions of people worldwide.
