Many people suffer from degenerative changes in the choroid. Some of the degenerative changes seen in the choroid are as follows:

• Choroideremia: This rare condition is only seen in men and is inherited through the mother. Those who suffer from choroideremia notice problems in their vision in the first decade of their lives where they are unable to see things in dim light. However, it is only in the sixth decade that the problems actually manifest themselves and the patients suffer from severe loss of vision.
• Gyrate Atrophy: Here the degenerative changes seen in the choroid is characterized short-sightedness caused by the long axis and inability to see in dim conditions. It has been seen in people who take Vitamin B6, the degeneration progresses more slowly.
• Central Areolar Choroidal Dystrophy: This is again an inherited degenerative change in the choroid and starts from the fourth or the fifth decade of the life. It is characterized by problems with the central vision and inability to see in dim light. The person suffers from severe vision loss between the sixth and the seventh decade of the life and both eyes are usually affected.
