Safe Sex Statistics Usa
1 in every 5 Americans between the ages of 15 and 55 is suffering from a sexually transmitted infection. This is an alarming statistics considering the fact that the United States is the most developed nation in the world investing billions of dollars towards campaigns aimed at creating awareness among people regarding safe sex practices and the health risks associated with unsafe sex.

Increasing rate of STD and STI occurrences in individuals is a phenomenon that has become an epidemic during the last 15-20 years. Most of these diseases did not even exist 30 to 40 years ago. As per an estimated statistical data, nearly 5 percent of the entire US population, which is equivalent to 15 million people, gets newly infected every year. Out of these, approximately 63 percent of individuals are persons below the age of 25. More and more teenagers are becoming sexually active today and are starting to have sex even before they reach 18 years of age. Approximately 10 percent of 15-19 year old females become pregnant each year and almost 95 percent of these are unwanted or unintended pregnancies.

In today’s world, there are almost 25 types of sexually transmitted diseases. While effective treatment methods are available for some of them, others can be really fatal. More than the fatality, it is the humiliation and disgrace associated with these diseases that makes them even more dreaded. The best way to avoid these diseases is to abstain from having unprotected sex.

In an interesting statistical data obtained during 2006, a majority of sexually experienced teens used contraceptives the first time they had sex. The most common contraceptive methods used were the condoms and birth-control pills. Nearly all sexually active females had used at least one method of birth control. In 2006, 75 women per 1000 women aged 15-19 got pregnant. This rate has declined by 36 percent since its peak in 1990. February 14 of every year is celebrated as National Condom Week in the U.S.
